2016 March Triple A Issue
Happy March! Possibly the best month of the all; that is if you love music and sports and the first days of spring and baseball and college basketball and saving daylight. I love them all!
Of course, March is also SXSW and one of the most intriguing acts to play this year is our March cover band Wynonna & The Big Noise. Everyone knows Wynonna Judd but it’s been a while since we last heard from her. I think she’s going to surprise everyone with the passion she brings to these personal songs. You can get a small sample from her appearance on CBS Saturday Sessions.
SXSW is mostly about new music discovery and one of those bands you must hear are The Young Wild. I strongly suggest you first check out their innovative video for their single “Not A One”. If you won’t be at SXSW, you’ll still be able to see them in April as they’re playing with Atlas Genius.
Don’t love when you’re listening to random songs and something comes on that makes you look up? I had that experience with the Parisian band Joon Moon. I suggest you make an effort to see them in Austin during their first US tour.
One of the great attitude songs from the past few years is The Heavy’s “How You Like Me Now”. You know you’ve heard it a million times, but you can never place it. Well they’re back with more funky grooves on their new single “Since You Been Gone”. Besides SXSW, you can also catch them on The World Café, Coachella and a west coast swing in April.
On this March issue you can also look forward to hearing a nice, rockin’ tune from 7Horse and an acoustic jam courtesy of Keith Harkin. I’m thrilled that we get to feature long awaited new music from PJ Harvey, Sturgill Simpson and Frightened Rabbit and we close out this issue with the soulful Moxie Raia.
