2016 January Triple A Issue
Happy New Year!
The loss of Bowie is still fresh in our minds, so I have to say it’s been a bittersweet start to the year. I’ve been asking people for their Bowie stories and my favorite so far is when an unnamed music promoter (let’s just say his initials are JB) took Joe Jackson to a New York club after Joe’s show. They saw Bowie and JB walked up to him and introduced Bowie to Joe. Who knows what type of debauchery went on at that time? Only the mysterious JB knows for sure 🙂
Run River North have created an epic lead off single that brings to mind the meeting of Arcade Fire and The Killers. The song “Run Or Hide” grows on me with each listen. The album “Drinking From a Salt Pond” comes out on February 26 and they start a west coast tour in March. Make sure they get to your station.
The Strumbellas “Spirits” is the type of song I can imagine a club, theatre arena full of fans singing at the top their lungs. This Canadian band will be one to watch in 2016.
Ben Rector has a strong fan base and all the proof you need is in his fan-driven video for “Brand New”. It’s the type of upbeat, positive song that we need to start off the new year. The song is going for adds on February 1. Feel free to play it now.
Also in this month’s sampler platter is a Travelling Wilbury’s classic. “Handle With Care” is performed by Brandon Flowers, Britt Daniel, Dhani Harrison, Jonathan Bates, Wayne Coyne, and “Weird Al” Yankovic during George Fest: A Night To Celebrate the Music of George Harrison. A soulful Anderson East brings out “The Devil In Me”. Sinning seems to be happening on this sampler, so the perfect segue to Anderson’s song is JD & The Straight Shot‘s “Better Find A Church”. We end this month on a positive note with the inspiring “Shining Like A Diamond” by The Outer Vibe.
