2015 July Triple A Issue

Beirut "No No No" Radio Informer July 2015

I’m so thrilled to have Beirut on the cover this month.  It’s their first record in four years and in case you’re interested there’s a nice interview here with Zach Condon on how he overcame exhaustion and got inspired to make this new record.   Everyone seems to be embracing the first single which has already sold almost three thousand copies in 4 weeks and now finds itself ready to jump into the top 30 at AAA.

I think it’s a fair assessment to call Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame member Buddy Guy a national treasure.  He’s a Kennedy Center honoree, been awarded the Presidential National Medal Of the Arts and has earned 7 Grammys.  I guess he really was “Born to Play Guitar”.  You can just play the song and hear him tell his own story and declare that he’s “got the blues running through my veins”.

Good Old War continues the slow but steady climb into the top 20.  Practically every station that has played it has increased the number of spins each week.  They are in the middle of a US tour that’s taking them from the West to the East and back again through October. They are showing no signs of slowing down.

Summers are meant for getting in a little trouble.  Enter Grizfolk.  They’re based in LA with roots in Sweden.  Lead singer Adam Roth declares “you’re the trouble I want, you’re my troublemaker”?  What is this trouble?  I’m not sure, but it fits in his pocket so it’s up to your interpretation.  It’s pure rock and roll. Good times! Expect to hear a lot about this band in 2015.

Also in this issue is Gavin James, currently found opening up shows for Sam Smith on his summer tour as well as playing at the FMQB conference in Boulder. I’m so happy to feature another typically brilliant song from Songwriter Hall Of Fame member JD Souther.  Following up their top 5 smash “If I Loved You” is Durham based Delta Rae with the song “Chasing Twisters”.  If you enjoy the music of JD Souther, you’re going to love this new song from Bobby Long , it’s another well-crafted song from this English singer-songwriter.  It deserves your attention.  Enjoy!
