2014 December Hot AC Issue

The end of 2014 is almost here. Wow… another year just whizzed by in the blink of an eye. From all of us at RadioInformer to all of you reading this, Happy Holidays. Here’s to a happy and successful new year! This last issue will help identify some of the upcoming hits of 2015.

Walk the Moon is back with a Top 10 Alternative hit, “Shut Up And Dance”. Reminiscent of Chumbawamba‘s massive 1997 smash “Tubthumping”, “Shut Up And Dance” sounds like a sure fire Hot AC anthem. What can you say about Mark Ronson‘s spot on, 80s-era funk production of “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars on lead vocals! Right down to the popping bass guitar, claps, classic synth strikes, and horn punches — this is a tribute to The Gap Band, Dazz Band, Cameo, Zapp, Rick James etc. already blowing up the airwaves across the country. The slow building Magic! follow-up to “Rude” is starting to get under the skin of Hot AC programmers. “Let Your Hair Down” is deceivingly infectious with it’s reggae groove and  smooth production. Sia seems like a perfect choice to sing a big, pop production of “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” for the upcoming December 19 theater release of the latest film version of Annie. Trending up into the Top 10 of the Alternative chart is “Rollercoaster” by Bleachers, a terrific follow-up to “I Wanna Get Better”. Likewise “Cigarette Daydreams” by Cage The Elephant pierces the Top 5 at Alternative and looks to go higher as it crosses to Top 40 and Hot AC. Like a fine wine Mary J Blige is back up to #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts with her new album The London Sessions. The first single “Therapy”, co-written with Sam Smith, is a potential hit at Hot AC with it’s direct lyrics and simple production. Don’t overlook this song! Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Priory is a new electronica-based band who’s first single “Weekend” reached #11 on the Alternative chart. Lots of Hot AC programmers like this song! Finally, Lady Antebellum‘s #1 Country hit, “Bartender” is reprised on this issue of Ri with an eye to further growth in 2015. Happy New Year!
