2014 September Triple A Issue

Fall is finally here, kids are back in school, we get back to our routine before the insanity of the winter holidays starts up.  It’s a time to reflect on the simpler things in life and Guster’s “Simple Machine” is a perfect reflection of this time.  No lead up time in this song as this feel good song gets off and running immediately and keeps it simple.  This is pure rock joy.  I can see why this one has already jumped 44 places up the chart.   Fall is also the time to get down and dirty and no song can reflect this time better then Elle King’s “Ex’s and Oh’s”.  The opening couplet “I had me a boy, turned him into a man.  Showed him all the things that he didn’t understand” immediately grabbed my attention.  She’s going to be an artist to watch.  Those that remember The Fall now brings us Frazey Ford’s “September Fields”.  This former lead singer of The Be Good Tanya’s may be Canadian but the horns and Hammond organ remind me of the Memphis Blues.   Judging from the variety of stations already playing the song, this seems like a tune that hits a sweet spot of appealing to the various tastes of the Triple A audience.  Sure Bleachers had a number 1 hit with “I Wanna Get Better” but what have you done for me lately?  How about “Rollercoaster”?  It’s already a top 25 hit at Modern rock.  The song is just like riding a rollercoaster daring you to scream the lyrics when the chorus kicks in.

The September sampler contains a plethora of great music to kick start the Fall so as Gemma Ray might say, “Buckle Up”.  You’ll find a piano version of Sia’s massive hit, “Chandelier”.  The command to “Shut Up and Dance” from Walk The Moon as well as the distinctive vocals of a great song from Imogen Heap.  The #1 reacting song with listeners at the Boulder music meeting for Sunset Sons “She Wants”.  I give you a rock and roll raver from The Howling Tongues.  And last but certainly not least is Lykke Li looking back at her summer love. Is there anything more Fall than that?   Enjoy!
