Solange Knowles Joins Chromeo on Jimmy Fallon
Chromeo, the Canadian disco throwback, recently teamed up with Solange Knowles to perform its dance number “When the Night Falls” here from the duo’s latest album Business Casual on the Jimmy Fallon Show.
Featuring Dave 1 (David Macklovitch) on lead vocal and guitar and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) on synthesizers and talk box (initially made famous decades ago by guitarist Peter Frampton), Chromeo has proven themselves to be among the most musically satisfying of the electrofunk genre. The addition of Solange (Beyonce Knowles’ younger sister) is a curious pairing, but it hits the mark squarely.
Since its 2004 debut album She’s in Control, Chromeo has been compared to Klymaxx, Sylvester and even Hall & Oates. In fact, the duo made a notable appearance in 2008 on Daryl Hall’s web-based “Live from Daryl’s House” show. The standout of the project was “I Can’t Go For That,” which featured a fresh, upbeat funkiness to Hall’s 1981 hit.
Released last September, Business Casual made the Billboard 200 and was No. 4 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Solange, who balances an acting career with singing, also made the Billboard 200 with her solo album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams in 2008.
Chromeo has made numerous TV show appearances including performances on Conan, Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel and even Yo Gabba Gabba, where the duo sang about washing hands.
