Mayer Hawthorne Serves Up 60s Soul
If you like good old fashioned 60’s pop/soul music don’t miss the great performance of “The Walk” by Mayer Hawthorne (aka Andrew Mayer Cohen) on Conan this past Monday! This guy knows how to channel his idols Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, and Mike Terry and can write like Holland, Dozier, and Holland.
Born 20 years after his mentors were already on their way to making hits, Hawthorne fast forward’s the essence of soul and injects it into todays disparate musical landscape. Though he looks more like Elvis Costello than Marvin Gaye, Hawthorne and his great band, featuring a classic horn section, are pure R&B.
Check out Hawthorne’s new album, How do You Do, and groove to him on one of his current tour dates!
